Balmorhea State Park, TX

April 5, 2014. – Saturday

We took the dogs to the dog park one more time before leaving Low-Hi RV Ranch in Deming, NM. This time there were dogs for them to socialize with. Bella had no problem meeting strange dogs. Chica on the other hand acted scared.

Getting the RV ready to move, requires a check off list of things to do. Bill went out to unhook the electric and water while I was getting the inside ready. I was expecting to dump the sewer tanks when I got done since Bill already teased me that dumping would be my job. Then I heard him getting the dump hoses out of the bumper holder and looked out the window to see him dumping our tanks! He is a true RVer now!!!

Left Deming at 10 am and got to the NM/TX border at 11:30. Stopped at the TX Visitor Center in Anthony, for brochures and to eat lunch in the RV.

I called Balmorhea State Park to see if they they had any campsites and they reserved one for us. It was a long day of driving as we didn’t get to the park till 6:00 pm.

This state park has the world’s largest spring fed swimming pool. It covers 1.75 acres and is 72-76 degrees year round. Scuba divers enjoy the clear 25 ft depth sections. There is a wading section and different depths between the two.

In addition to the pool and campground, there are 1930’s retro-style lodging in the San Solomon Courts made of adobe. Canals run thru the park.

We walked over to look at the pool but waited till Sunday to go swimming. Meanwhile we rested up from the long drive and went to bed early.

Not sure how to delete the duplicate RV picture.

See Sunday post for pool pictures.
